Lawrence businessman.
Mr. William Wiedemann was a prominent German-American in Lawrence's early history. He took over his father's confectionary store (established 1868) in 1879, which was located at 835 Massachusetts Street, and developed it into one of Lawrence's favorite "hang-outs." Wiedemann's was also an important social establishment in Lawrence, making and selling ice-cream, candies, and syrups, and was actually Lawrence's first air conditioned establishment. |
