The Varsity Theatre.

This photograph taken by Alfred Lawrence shows the Varsity Theatre located at 1015 Massachusetts, Lawrence, Kansas in the 1930's. A group of Lawrence merchants stand out front posing with the merchandise they plan to give away in the "Toby Durnals Gift and Fun Show," presented live on stage.

The Varsity Theatre, 1015 Massachushetts Street,was built by Lee Cohn and began operation in 1914 as "The New Vaudeville Theatre." L.L. (Lloyd)Ware bought it and reopened it as a motion picture house in 1915, with the Varsity name.
