Turner Hall, Lawrence, Kansas.

Turner Hall was built in 1868 at the corner of Rhode Island and Warren Streets (9th Street)facing west. A frame addition was added on the east side (back) in 1872. This two-story limestone structure housed a full gymnasium equipped with gymnastics equipment. There is a large stage on the east end of the hall where a grand piano once stood. A balcony on the west side offered spectators the opportunity to watch events. In the basement a bar extended from north to south, walnut card tables provided an area for games, and two bowling alleys were used for competitions. At the east end of the lower level, a door led into a fenced beer garden.
