Ninth Street Baptist Church.

This is the second African American Baptist church in the city of Lawrence. It was created as a mission of the three years after the Civil War. The Ninth Street Baptist Church has had several names. It has been called: The Second Missionary Baptist Church, Warren Street Baptist Church, and Ninth Street Baptist Church.

In 1855, the lot that the church stands on today was in a deed to the Emigrant Aid Society of New England by the Trustees of Lawrence Township. It was then given to Alexander Gregg, Bedford Drisdom, Jordan Clark, Edward Simms, Moses White, and Gabriel Gray from Isaiah Adams and Henry Brayling.

In 1863 the New England Immigrant Aid Society established the Second Missionary Baptist Mission. Father Bateman was the pastor of the church.

Rev. Bedford Drisdom started the building.

In January 1876, Rev. Washington Mercer was asked to be the pastor. His goal was to reunite the church and he did successfully and named it Warrn Street Baptist Church. He oversaw completing the structure and served until 1885. The deed was given to Isaiah Adams and others on March 26, 1882.

In 1885 to 1890, Rev. E.M. Shoron served as pastor. There were a lot of pastors who served only short periods. They are Reverends Wilton R. Boone, A.M. Contee, A.T. Ayers, P.J. Jackson, P.D. Skinner, De Clelland, Mark Thompson, H.W. Bachelor and B.A. Smith.
