Here are pages 16 and 17 of the personal military service record book of one German ancestor of Lawrence resident Donna (Schmidt) Heffner. Gerhardt Benedikt Schäffler, who went by the name of Benedikt, was her great-grandfather. According to this record he was born in the state of Württemberg and inducted into the army in that state in 1872. Sometime after 7 years in the army and in the reserves he emigrated to the United States and settled in Seneca, Kansas.

Views of individual pages are available below. They include entries about duty assignments, leave, and mustering out, as well as registration for the reserves.

This item was provided by Donna Heffner.
