Community band organizer and teacher of wagon-making at Haskell.

John Buch, Sr.was one of 34 members of the Lawrence Turnverein pictured in composite photographs of 1881.

He was of German heritage. He was a wagon maker and taught at the Haskell Institute for native Americans.

In 1878 John Buch founded the Buch's Military Band, which he also directed. The band started with ten members, all members of the Turnverein, and consisted of two drums and eight brass instruments. These members played together until 1884. The band expanded to include others in the community until there were 28 members by 1900. The original ten-member band played at all events at Turner Hall.
