Buch’s Bandstand is a bandstand in Lawrence, Kansas that was erected by a German man by the name of Buch. While Buch started the band, as a hobby, he taught wagon making at Haskell University. When the band first started there were only ten members. They had two drums and eight brass instruments. |

After 1884 the band played every event at Turner Hall. They would also play the first concert of each summer. They would alternate where they would play the first concert from South Park and Central Park in Lawrence, Ks. |

Buch’s band erected a bandstand on May 1906 in Lawrence’s oldest park, which is South Park, dated in 1854. Massachusetts Street splits the park down the middle. The West Side of the park used to hold Lawrence’s first aerial fire truck. The West Side of the park also contains a playground and a recreation center. |

The East Side of the park holds Buch’s bandstand and has a formal flower garden. In the summer the flower garden is blooming with flowers and some people get married on the bandstand. Now in 1975 the city was planning to build a water line across South Park, but there was much concern that the water line would destroy $30,000 worth of trees. |
